St. Colmcille's National School, Knocklyon, Dublin

School Yard Improvements

St. Colmcilles National School in Knocklyon is the largest primary school in the country. Their playground is shared by both their junior and senior schools and can get extremely busy. Image Masters were extremely excited to read St. Colmcille's application which showed their commitment to creating a positive environment for their students.

Within the hustle and bustle of their busy playground they plan on upgrading a section with some artificial grass to create a space for students to sit and relax. It will not only improve the visual image of the yard and well being of their students but also open up a whole new range of potential activities, such as:  gymnastic lesson, social and reading groups etc.

Scoil Caoimhin Naofa, Glendalough, Wicklow

Outdoor, Woodland Classroom

Scoil Caoimhin Noafa has recently secured a piece of oak/beech woodland in which they are planning on creating an outdoor classroom to cater for 130 pupils. Its a fantastic initiative that will enhance both the Forest and Green Schools programmes and cater for all outdoor activities in all subjects. It will help the promotion of local flora and fauna, creating an awareness of trees, the recycling and reuse of natural products, the preservation of natural habitats and giving a heightened awareness of a woodland environment and of forest management.

As part of the initiative, a photographic diary of progress will also be made and presented electronically, encouraging pupils to learn skills in photography, art and the presentation of it using technical tools and media.
